I did it!! I finished my cross stitched hymn before starting the next one! Here’s a picture of the finish. It obviously still needs framing, but that can wait until I can afford it. And the very next thing I did after finishing this was to get out the new linen and start a grid on it. Not an easy process because it is 36 count linen. It takes a while for the eyes to adjust to the small thread count and my 4x magnifying reading glasses are an essential part to doing this. I might even break down ...

Last week I was musing about whether or not I would be tempted to start the new project that was being delivered by Canada Post on Monday. I got the delivery but had the unfortunate, or perhaps fortunate, finding that the fabric that I had for stitching the new project wasn’t going to be big enough. So that meant I had to order new fabric, which will likely take another week to get here. Rats..... But that certainly removed the possibility of being tempted to start the new project. In the meantime, I continue to push on to finish ...
read more I’ve been slow stitching all week long, not just Sunday. And I have progress to show for it too, which is always an encouraging thing. The pair of socks I was working on are done up to the point of grafting the toes and sewing in the yarn ends. And then, even better, the cross stitched hymn that I started back in June is about 6 or 7 stitches away from being finished. There are just a few black stitches to put in to finish the border on the bottom right corner.
I think after this I am going ...
read more It has been another glorious week outside, weather wise, so I have taken advantage of it while I can and have done some more stitching while enjoying the outdoors. According to the long range forecast, it is going to get much chillier by this time next week, so I want to enjoy it fully while it lasts. I’m continuing to work on my hymn cross stitch piece. A few more hours should finish it.
I think after this is done I will go back to my Quilting Bee piece.

read more We’ve been away for the week, just the 2 of us, using a family member’s trailer at a seasonal campground. It has been a highly unusual week away for us. The usual pattern for years has been, the Shepherd’s are camping therefore it is raining. That rule held true for many years. And although it started that way last Sunday, the rest of the week has been absolutely gorgeous. So there has been lots of time spent outside reading and stitching. And that means I’ve made quite good progress on my hymn piece. If we had ...
That was such a fast week. It seems like just hours ago that I wrote last weeks’ post. How can it have been a week already? We had a little bit of excitement happen here on Wednesday. A rather bad storm with lots of wind blew through between 5:30 or 6:00 pm. It brought a tree down, right on top of the back end of our car, It smashed in the back of the roof and the back side window. No persons were harmed, and it is only a thing, albeit an expensive thing, and the insurance will ...
I’m getting lots of cross stitching time in this week. If I keep going at this rate I might actually finish this hymn piece soon. And that will create a need to make a decision... do I go back to my quilters cross stitch sampler or do I start something new. But I’ve got lots of time before I need to decide. Last week I was here: This week I’ve finished the big letters and the flowers beside the big letters and can get a start on the rest of the lettering.
Not bad, not bad at ...
I’ve gotten a little bit more done on my hymn cross stitch piece. I think I would actually have done more on it today, except that the light faded and my temporary seating place while our renovations continue doesn’t have a good lamp. And I’m too lazy to get my lamp and set it up. So daylight stitching it is.
Our local grocery store had a great deal on Roma tomatoes, 25 pounds for $8.99. We picked up 50 pounds. So far all I’ve done with them is wash them, cut the stem ends off ...

I still have the last word which is “tree” to finish on the second line. But I wanted to move my hoop back to the left side of the piece in order to work on the bigger letters.
I’ll finish that last word on the second line when I move the hoop over to the right again.

My stitching time and quilting time has been in short supply lately. Mostly due to renovations still happening and also grandchild minding, both of which I am truly grateful for, so it is all good. But that means an absence of things to talk about here on the blog. However, yesterday I managed to find my cross stitch stuff and get it all gathered together and take a few stitches in my hymn piece. Last I showed it I was here.
I put in a few more lengths of threads and got another couple of words done.
I have the ...

This is such a relaxing and enjoyable stitch, with the added bonus of having the hymn in my brain while stitching it. And I didn’t realize until I took this picture that the mottling colour in the fabric and the thread colour for the lettering match. Not bad for matching the colour to an online picture of the thread.

I’ve been able to get more slow stitching done this week. Between it being too rainy to be outside or too smokey from the northern fires to be outside, there has been a lot of inside stitching time available. I have the top border of my current piece almost finished.
I can get to the beginning of the lettering next. I’m enjoying working on this one. There is enough of a challenge to keep my brain occupied without feeling like my brain is frying. It is all regular cross stitch, no fancy stitches involved. This is what the ...
